SCIENCE TALK ‘20 FAQ

I live in (insert your real or dream location here). What time does the conference start?
The conference begins each day at noon Pacific Standard Time.

I registered for the face to face version of SCIENCE TALK ‘20. How do I request a refund?
All registrants for the face to face conference have the option to register for the virtual conference and receive a refund for the difference, to request a refund for the entire conference, to transfer their registration to SCIENCE TALK ‘21, or to donate part or all of their registration to Science Talk, a 501c3. Please indicate your preference here. As of March 21, 2020, all face to face registrations were transferred to the virtual conference, ONLY IF we had not previously heard from you indicating a preference.
You should have received several emails in the past few weeks outlining your options. If you did not hear from us, please check your spam folder.

I purchased a t-shirt. Will I receive it?
Yes! You will receive an email from a Science Talk volunteer asking for a mailing address. We will mail all t-shirts in April. Please be patient; there may be delays in shipping due to supply chain disruption.

I am registered for the virtual conference. How do I access the event?
As of March 22, you should have received an email containing a link to the private conference room on our Science Talk community. If you register after that day you will receive a separate email, and we will send a second email the morning of the conference (March 26). You must join the community to access the conference room (joining is free). Once there, you will find more information about the virtual conference, including instructions for using the CrowdCast platform.

I didn't sign up for the face to face conference. Can I still register for the virtual conference?
Yes! Please register here.

I signed up for the Cultural Awareness in Science Communication (Thursday) or the Building a Brand on Social Media (Friday) workshops. How do I access these events?
By March 23 you will receive an email with a link to the private “room” for the workshops. As with the conference, the link will connect you to our online community. These workshops are full; only those who already registered can attend. If you signed up for one of the other workshops, these will be postponed until SCIENCE TALK ‘21.

I can’t attend the live-streamed conference. Can I access the content later?
Yes! All registered attendees can use the conference link to both view live content and to watch the recorded content at a later date.

I signed up for a poster or art display. Can I still present my work?
Yes! You should have received an email from Lisa Wald (logistics VP) asking you to sign up for the virtual poster/art session. The sign-up is available here. On Friday (March 27) at 3:30 PST you will have an opportunity to present a 3-minute talk about your work.

What’s the fast-pitch session, and how do I sign up?
Registered attendees have the opportunity to give a 1-minute pitch about your science communication project or opportunity. This is a great chance to showcase a new project, look for collaborators, advertise jobs, or ask for mentors. Sign up here. If space is available we will allow sign up during the conference but we have a limited number of slots and suggest signing up in advance.

I’m excited for the virtual event but disappointed we can’t meet face to face. When and where is Science Talk ‘21?
We hear you! SCIENCE TALK ‘21 is March 25-26 in Portland, OR.
